2022 Volunteer Spotlight: Emerging Leaders

Meet ISPE Emerging Leader volunteers and the 2022 Europe Hackathon Committee.

Simon has been an active member of ISPE since 2021. Simon’s transition from ISPE Student Chapter leadership to the San Francisco Student Chapter leadership has allowed Simon to be incredibly effective within the Emerging Leader’s group for the past two years. During his time on the committee, he is consistently the first to volunteer to help with mock interviews or resume reviews in addition to his duties as the professional lead for the UC Davis Student Chapter. According to the San Francisco Chapter he has done an amazing job keeping the students engaged and being a resource for them.

Liam has been an active member of ISPE since 2021. He is a member of the ISPE Ireland Affiliate Emerging Leaders committee. Liam has recently been recognized by the Ireland Affiliate taking the lead in organizing their latest Emerging Leaders event which was considered extremely informative and inspiring.

The Emerging Leaders of the ISPE Iberia Affiliate, led by Marta Malo de Molina, Beatriz Sacristán, and Eliana Lorenzo, organized the 2022 ISPE International Europe Hackathon. A Hackathon is a 24-hour workshop in which participants work as a group to solve a proposed challenge that they present to a jury at the end of the activity. The objective of this workshop was to complete a digital transformation project for a company in the biomedical sector with minimal technological development.

During this activity, the participants had the support of industry experts belonging to various pharmaceutical companies in Europe. Once each team made their decisions regarding these systems, they had to prepare a business case explaining the reason for their choices and the advantages that these would entail for the performance of their company to make it more attractive to attract investors.

After these presentations, the judges, who acted as investors, chose the winning group. This group was awarded a pass to the next ISPE conference to be held in Vienna next December.

The success of this year’s Hackathon is a direct reflection of the leadership, dedication, and time that Marta, Beatriz, and Eliana dedicated to the project.

Raine is currently the Regulatory Affairs Specialist at Merck Sharpe & Dohme (I. A.) LLC.

During the lockdown, she also served as a manager for her mentor circle with ISPE Philippines Affiliate’s founder as the facilitator. She was also a case study module co-author and coach for an industrial pharmacy internship.
